Jordan faces intricate challenges that directly affect its youth and vulnerable populations within a unique demographic context where 63% of the population is below 30 years old. While this youth composition offers growth opportunities, it also brings significant hurdles, including one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the MENA region, notably impacting young women. With the youth unemployment rate soaring to 50% in 2022, exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis, Jordan grapples with increased vulnerabilities, further heightened by the recent Gaza conflict. In the online sphere, vulnerable young individuals encounter social barriers leading to cyber threats such as bullying, harassment, and digital narcotics, amplifying cascading consequences, including financial loss, physical and emotional threats, strained family relationships, and social isolation. These challenges are particularly acute among the socio-economically vulnerable within these groups.
In line with these challenges, the overall objective of “Safe Pathways for ‘at-risk’ Youth and Women in Jordan” project entails more than just countering extremist ideologies, it aims to enhance socio-economic and digital resilience of youth living in Jordan, with a focus on at risk youth and women by providing safe pathways for these populations.
