This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to qualify as an Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner with a fully funded degree pathway to become accredited with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

We are looking for an Environmental Health Officer (Undergraduate) to join our team in Public Protection.

The successful person will share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients and communities.

About the role

The role will help deliver a high quality Public Protection Service across Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils working hard to protect the public. 

You will be placed initially in the Housing Team and your work programme will then be planned for you to gain experience in the core areas of your degree programme. This will involve moving between teams during the 4 year period to allow you to gain the knowledge and necessary skills.

On the job you will support the team including investigation and developing into enforcement of a range of legislation across Public Protection.

Your role will involve providing technical support to the Officers whilst studying towards qualification to an Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner role. 

You will be given appropriate time to study during the programme which may include some periodic travel to the University Centre, Weston.

About you

• You will need to be a good team player and have a flexible approach to work, being prepared to help in emergencies or with difficult tasks. 
• You will be enthusiastic to learn new skills with a desire to support and progress within the Team. You should be an innovative thinker and open to change to improve service delivery. 
• You will appreciate the legal consequences and reputational risks associated with regulatory work. 
• You must be capable of learning to deal with situations that may at times be emotionally and mentally challenging.

To gain entry onto the programme you will need:

• Three A levels at grade C or above or equivalent qualification. 
• Minimum 80 UCAS points (or equivalent).
• Applications with relevant experience in a technical role within Environmental Health will also be considered but would be subject to agreement with the university.

The (apprenticeship) levy funded development opportunity will mean that you will have access to a degree qualification in Environmental Health Practitioner BSc (Hons) with the expectation that you will complete the qualification as part of a package of support to enable you to effectively meet the anticipated deliverables and competencies set out for this role.

Appropriate time to study and attend University will be built into the work programme whilst professionally training in the role. 

The programme is due to start for enrolment in September 2024 at the University Centre, Weston.
